Pneu furado faz parte da rotina de qualquer cicloviajante, mas no nosso caso aconteceram algumas coisas que vale a pena relatar. Flat tire is part of the routine of any cycletourist, but in our case there have been some things worth reporting.

 Logo no terceiro dia de nossa viagem o nosso pneu traseiro novinho, da renomada marca Schwalbe (um plus tour) começo a rasgar. Estava com a calibragem alta mas dentro dos limites do fabricante e quando colocamos o pneu estava do lado certo e bem encaixado. Para nossa sorte quando estávamos parados no acostamento da estrada trocando o pneu traseiro pelo dianteiro para tentarmos continuar a viagem até nosso próximo ponto de parada, apareceram dois funcionários da via que já haviam nos visto pela internet e nos levaram até a próxima cidade, onde encontramos o último pneu aro 26 da única bicicletaria da cidade. Aprendemos duas lições, mesmo o melhor dos pneus pode vir com algum problema de fábrica e te deixar na mão e por mais que você confie em seus pneus, SEMPRE leve um reserva. On the third day of our trip, our brand new rear tire, from the renowned Schwalbe brand (a plus tour), started to rip. It was with a high calibration but still within the limits of the manufacturer and well fitted. Luckily for us when we were standing on the side of the road changing the rear tire to the front to try to continue the journey to our next stop, there were two road employees who had already seen us on the internet and took us to the next city, where we found the last  26″ tyre of the city’s only bicycle shop. We learned two lessons, even the best of the tires can come with some factory problem and even if you trust your tires, ALWAYS take a spare one with you.

 Após a troca do pneu schwalbe traseiro, colocamos o nosso dianteiro da mesma marca na traseira e um Levorin que compramos na única bicicletaria do vilarejo na frente e sempre costumamos usar fita anti-furo. Depois desta troca começamos a ter alguns furos no pneu dianteiro, mais do que o habitual. Após verificar com calma o que estava acontecendo, descobri que a fita anti-furo era quem estava furando as câmaras de ar, algo paradoxal mas que pode acontecer quando a fita anti-furo esta mal posicionada ou cortada em algum ponto. Eu achava a fita longa e idiotamente cortei para que ela ficasse mais curta. After discarding the rear schwalbe tire, we put our front of the same brand in the back and a Levorin that we bought in the only bicycle shop of the village in front and using anti-puncture tape. After this exchange we started to have some flat front tires, more than usual. After calmly checking what was happening, I discovered that the anti-puncture tape was the one that was piercing the tubes, something paradoxical but something that can happen when the anti-puncture tape is badly positioned or cut at some point. I thought the tape was long and stupidly cut so that it would be shorter.

Estas fitas já vem com as extremidades finas e macias para que não aconteçam estes cortes nas câmaras. Quando você corta estas fitas para ficarem mais curtas, o local do corte fica mais espesso e firme e acaba com o tempo rasgando a câmara. Outra lição aprendida, NUNCA corte sua fita anti-furo. These tapes already come with thin and soft ends so that these punctures do not happen in the chambers. When you cut these tapes to make them shorter, the cut location becomes thicker and firmer and ends up ripping the tube apart. Another lesson learned, NEVER cut your anti-puncture tape.

Para resolver o problema eu lixei com calma as extremidades cortadas e ainda coloquei uma fita sobre o local, evitando que saliências voltem a cortar a câmara de ar. Resolveu o problema. Em estradas com pneus de borracha mais fina as fitas anti-furo evitam grande parte dos furos que podem acontecer, então preferi ajustar a fita do que simplesmente removê-la e seguir viagem sem ela. To solve the problem I calmly rubbed the cut ends and I also put a scotch tape on the place, preventing that protrusions again to cut the tube. Solved the problem. On the roads with thinner rubber tires the anti-puncture tapes avoid most of the punctures that can happen, so I preferred to fix the tape rather than simply remove it and go on without it.
