Quando montei minha primeira bicicleta de cicloturismo (“Rufus”), decidi montar com quadro de aço chromo-ly , que comprei pela internet, marca Origin8. Depois que conheci a Flavinha, começamos a viajar juntos, em bikes separadas, a dela de alumínio, marca Mosso e eu com a minha de aço. Nossa tandem, “Minhoca”, foi entregue poucas semanas antes da viagem e o framebuilder deu apenas 1 orientação: “Olha, quadros de bicicleta são difíceis de quebrar, mas no caso das tandems, por possuírem um comprimento maior e carregarem mais peso estão mais susceptíveis a diversos estresses nas áreas de solda, como torções por exemplo. Pedalamos mais de 3000 km com nossa tandem, carregando 60 kg de bagagem mais cerca de 130 kg nossos, passamos por quase todos os tipos de terrenos imagináveis, como trilhas com barro, estradas de rípios, pedras, costeletas de vaca, lagoas, asfalto e areia. Estávamos no Parque de Santa de Teresa no Uruguay, aliás lugar maravilhoso para visitar do qual falaremos em outro post, no final do dia já um pouco cansados do passeio e com pressa em montar nosso acampamento. Deslizávamos a uns 30 km/h em um caminho asfaltado dentro do parque quando acertei um buraco, foi um tranco na hora, chacoalhou tudo e chegou até a furar o pneu dianteiro da “minhoca”, coitada. We were in the Parque de Santa de Teresa in Uruguay, a wonderful place to visit from which we will talk in another post, at the end of the day we were a bit tired from the tour and in a hurry to set up our camp. Montamos nosso acampamento, troquei o pneu, passamos duas noites no parque e depois seguimos viagens. Depois de passado um dia lá decidi dar uma manutenção na bike e foi então que tive um “mini ataque cardíaco”, a solda entre o tubo inferior do quadro e o acoplador (usamos peças usinadas para dividir o quadro da tandem em dois quando necessário) estava quebrada, o acoplador enluva o tubo e por isso a solda se partiu mas o quadro continuou relativamente sem se dividir ao meio. Deu aquela suadeira e pensamentos cheios de palavrões na cabeça. Tinha que resolver aquilo antes de partir. Tirei uma foto e enviei na hora para o framebuilder que prontamente respondeu e me orientou a fazer uma solda, MIG de preferência, que resolveria bem o problema e depois durante um vôo de escala que teremos no Brasil por volta de Fevereiro ele vai substituir o quadro por um novo sem custo, haja vista que o quadro ainda esta na garantia. After a day spent there I decided to make a bike maintenance and it was then that I had a “mini heart attack”, the welding between the lower frame tube and the coupler (we use machined parts to divide the tandem frame in two when necessary) was broken, the coupler enveloped the tube and so the weld broke but the frame continued relatively well without splitting in half. It gave me that thoughts full of curse words in my head. We had to fix it before leaving. I took a picture of it and sent it to the framebuilder who promptly responded and instructed me to do a soldering, preferably MIG, that would solve the problem well and then during a connection flight that we will have in Brazil around February he will replace the frame for a brand new one at no cost, given that the frame is still under warranty.

Castillos é uma cidade de cerca de 6 mil habitantes, pequenina e tranquila, mas sim, tinha uma tornearia que soldava quase de tudo (alumínio NÃO). Levei então a “minhoca” para ter “sua fratura” operada. Cheguei com ela na tornearia Cardoso e já vieram várias pessoas dar uma olhada. O rapaz que soldou disse que seria bem tranquilo e usou a tal da solda MIG. A “Minhoca” ficou com uma “cicatriz queloide” de aço. Senhor Cardoso disse que aquele tipo de solda é bem forte e que aguentaria. Me despedi e ele não quis cobrar, disse que era algo muito simples e nos desejou um “buen viaje”. The “Minhoca” was left with a “keloid scar” made of steel. No momento que escrevo este POST já fazem vários dias que fizemos a soldagem, passamos por vários tipos de terrenos e já tivemos alguns trancos, até hoje sem problemas, esta literalmente “um aço” a “cicatriz queloide” da “Minhoca”. Nos primeiros dias toda a vez que parava a bicicleta eu checava as soldas e desviava até de buraquinhos mínimos. Hoje já estamos mais tranquilos e voltamos a rotina normal, ficou grosseira a soldagem mas parece que esta bem forte mesmo. At the moment I write this POST, we have already done this welding several days, we went through several types of terrain and we had a few strides, until today without problems, it is literally the “keloid steel scar” at “Minhoca”. Pois é, um dos pesadelos do cicloturista, a quebra de quadro, é rara mas aconteceu conosco. Pesquisei em outros forum internacionais sobre fraturas de quadros em tandem e há relatos em todos os tipos de quadros, inclusive de marcas conhecidas como CO-MOTION e SANTANA. Well, one of the cyclist’s nightmares, the frame cracking, is rare but it’s happened to us. Esta foi nossa experiência de quebra de quadro em uma cicloviagem longa e a melhor coisa que fizemos foi escolher o aço ao invés do alumínio, na nossa opinião. Foi fácil, rápido e no nosso caso gratuito para consertar.
