Se tem uma coisa que percebemos nestes mais de 1000 km sobre nossa tandem é que ela é muita divertida, mas o desgaste das peças é maior também. If there is one thing that we have noticed in these 1000 km on our tandem it is that there is a lot of fun, but the parts wear is faster too.

 Tudo isso é facilmente compreensível. A diversão é maior pois uma tandem por si só já chama mais a atenção e gera curiosidade em quem a vê, principalmente tão carregada, atraindo as pessoas e aumentando a interação social. O desgaste maior vem por conta do peso total sobre as duas rodas e também o estresse de coroas, cassetes e correntes, necessários para “puxar” este caminhão das bicicletas. All this is easily understandable. The fun is bigger because a tandem by itself already gets more attention and generates curiosity in who sees it, especially so loaded, attracting people and increasing social interaction. The increased wear comes due to the total weight on both wheels and also the stress at crowns, cassettes and chains, needed to “pull” this “truck bike”.

 Os pneus desgastam mais rapidamente e os aros desalinham com mais facilidade, mas nada que uns apertos de vez em quando não resolvam. Já a corrente traseira (do câmbio), da marca KMC, trocamos com 900 km pois já estava enroscando e dificultando a troca de marchas. Na corrente do “timing” apenas retiramos alguns elos para dar uma apertada e ela continua firme e forte sem problemas, talvez por ser mais grossa também. The tires wear faster and the rims misalign more easily, but nothing that some adjustment from time to time will not solve. The rear chain (derailleur) from the KMC brand, we exchanged with 900 km because it was already screwing and making difficult the gear exchanging. In the timing chain, we just take out a couple of links to make it tighter and it stays strong and without problems, maybe because it’s thicker as well.

As pastilhas de freio, de marcas não famosas, trocamos com cerca de 800 km. Depois que pegamos alguns dias de chuva em terrenos barrentos e arenosos o desgaste foi muito rápido e a borracha delas virou uma pasta preta. Logo substituímos as nossas por umas meio gastas que carregávamos em caso de emergência e depois, devido a facilidade em encontrar, compramos novas em uma pequena bicicletaria que encontramos pelos caminhos. The brake pads, not from famous brands, we exchanged after about 800 km. After we took a few days of rain on muddy and sandy terrain the wear was very fast and their rubber turned into a black paste. Soon we replaced ours for a half spent that we carried in case of emergency and then, due to the ease in finding, we bought new ones in a small bicycle shop that we found in a village.

 Sempre que possível, quando encontro uma mangueira de água e tenho um pouco de tempo, lavo as correntes, coroas, catracas e dou uma lubrificada para retardar um pouco o desgaste. Whenever possible, when i find a water hose and have some time, I wash the chains, crowns, ratchets and lubricate everything to slow down the wear.
